Critical Role Campaign 4 Introduces the Fighters Party

Since the launch of Campaign 4, new Dungeon Master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a diverse cast of heroes, and a gripping narrative including angels, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in power within the city.

Note: Key plot points for the third episode of the new season lie ahead.

The Soldiers Table Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the first table of heroes who will split off from the central cast to begin their separate journey, separate from the remaining groups.

The combat-focused team consists of the determined fighter (brought to life by the voice actor), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), Tyranny (Whitney Moore), Wicander Halovar (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at the same party would be unworkable.

This explains, the opening chapters of this story serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before splitting into three distinct groups: Warriors, Strategists, and Seekers.

What Defines the Combat Party

According to the DM, the combat-focused party is for adventurers who enjoy a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where diplomatic options are scarce.

Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the third episode make it clear why these five characters are perfectly fit for the Soldiers table.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team understands precisely where to go next after a brutal initial meeting with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death kicked off the narrative’s action—exploited The Crow Keepers for his personal gain, invading the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the enchanted items to dispose of.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and fled to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, beyond the city, with Cyd close behind.

Character Drivers

Moreover, each member has a specific drive to depart the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and best friend, wants vengeance.
  • The adventurer knows the northern area and cautions that it is a dangerous place.
  • The strong character and The cleric, having defied his family’s wishes to kill Teor and instead rescued him, have no other options.
  • Yet, their reputation as key figures in the influential clan could assist the group access places they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor pledged a unbreakable promise to The savior for his salvation and will now follow him everywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

Lastly, all of them are sought by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • Thimble and Kattigan are known criminals.
  • The warrior and Wicander betrayed the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • The target is wanted dead by the family.

This results in them few options but to travel to the northern region in pursuit of the antagonist.

Upcoming Developments

From the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the warrior group will be absent next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to form the Questers and Strategists parties.

Viewers can anticipate finding out which adventurers will be where in the story’s final introductory chapter, available to watch on the upcoming Thursday.
