19 of the Russian's twenty-one titles have been won on hardcourt

A comeback the Russian player won his initial championship for nearly 30 months with success over opponent Moutet in the competition final.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has experienced a challenging season, winning just a single victory at the major tournaments and experiencing a setback at the New York tournament.

His varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serving in specific - led to him exiting of the world's top 10 and finally separating with long-term coach Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has gradually advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a hard-fought three-set victory over opponent Moutet.

This represents the player's initial title after the Rome competition and maiden on a hard surface since March of that year.

Victory also indicates he has secured 21 victories at twenty-one different events.

"It's the first time I have attended a competition with my two daughters at once, so to secure a championship is especially meaningful," commented tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This title is in honour of my younger daughter Victoria, because the initial championship I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

Medvedev, the past champion, had failed in his past six title deciders, featuring in that event previously this season.

His defensive play style and regular outbursts on court had prompted some to doubt if his skill to play at the highest level was over.

But the athlete has made changes in the last few weeks, striving to approach the net and play aggressively, backed up by an enhanced service.

He fought back from a break down in the opening set against the challenging Moutet, taking four of the last five points to go ahead.

Both players traded break points in the following set before the Frenchman, bidding for his maiden ATP Tour title, seized the initiative to force a final set.

The opponent defended 4 early opportunities in a close deciding set before the champion secured a break to 15 to close out the victory.

Appropriately, Medvedev secured the win with a point at the front of the court, with his opponent incapable to control a shot after two hours and 38 minutes.
